A message from our Seniors Captain, Tony Uden
I was, of course, very pleased to be invited to be Captain of Willingdon Seniors section. Having played at the club for a number of years, I have seen the section grow and prosper, thanks to the hard work and commitment of the Seniors Committee and those who have preceded me as Seniors Captain.
As a result, we have a full calendar with regular competitions and matches against a large number of clubs in Sussex and Kent (please see the Seniors Diary below). We also run a very successful Team Open and a Seniors Invitation. In addition, there are Seniors lunches each month, after competitions, and a number of social events organised by the Seniors section that are open to all club members.
There are also competitions and matches involving and against our Ladies section and I am very keen during my term of office to develop the links with all the other sections of the club.
However, no club can develop without a good course and the right staff. Willingdon boasts a great course, not the longest but certainly demading, that is superbly maintained by the Green staff, This is backed up by a very knowledgeable professional who is always there to help the low and high handicapper (and those new to golf) achieve maximum enjoyment from their game. Add to this very friendly bar staff and excellent catering and you have the recipe for a great club.
Many golf clubs have a Seniors section but, in my experience, there are very few that are as well supported and as friendly as Willingdon. The thought of joining a new club, or even a new section within your existing club, can be quite daunting but the Seniors at Willingdon will make you feel very welcome.
As Captain of the Seniors section, I will continue the tradition of supporting a nominated Charity. This year I will be raising funds for Chestnut Tree House. This will include Willingdon Seniors hosting a charity event in June 2018.
I look forward to meeting and playing with as many of the current Seniors as possible over the coming year and welcoming new members to the club.
If you are not already a member of Willingdon and you are interested in joining, contact our Club Secretary, Jacqueline Packham, on 01323 410981, or you can email her at firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively, call our Professional, Dan Gale on 01323 410984 or send him a mail at email@example.com
